CafeTran offers two different ways for storing term pairs:
- In tab-delimited text glossaries
- In TMX files for terms
TIP: We strongly encourage you to use "eye-friendly" and robust tab-delimited text glossaries for storing your terminology, since they have many advantages over TMX files.
Tab-delimited text glossaries can be sorted, merged, cleaned and edited very easily in CafeTran. You can also use a generic text editor, a spreadsheet program or an advanced editor for tab-delimited files (Windows: Ron's Editor, OS X: Xtabulator, nView, Java: JavaCSVeditor).

CafeTran offers two different ways for storing the segments (sentences, table cells, headings etc.) that you translate:
- In TMX files
- In external databases
The quick and easy way to store your segments (often called Translation Units or TUs) are TMX files. These TMX files are created very easily when you start a new translation project (or even during a project).
Only when you work with very large collections of segments (TUs), consisting of several millions of segments, you should use external databases in order to save RAM.
