For some languages (like French) the number of words in the main Hunspell dictionary (e.g. fr_FR.dic) is rather limited. Luckily, you can use CafeTran to quickly create your own custom dictionary (e.g. user-fr_FR.dic) from any reference documents, including your old translations. With this technique you can teach Hunspell all the words that you and your colleagues have typed in the last decade, and this will take only 30 minutes of your time.
- Collect reference documents in a file format that CafeTran can process.
- Place the documents in a folder.
- Create a new CafeTran project and set both the source language and target language to the language of your reference documents (e.g. fr-FR and fr-FR).
- Import the folder with documents in CafeTran.
- Choose Task > Transfer source segments to target segments.
Now follow the procedure described here: Listing words with unknown spelling
