Usability studies in the CafeTran labs show that Mac users can have troubles with using the File Open / Save dialogue boxes. Normal, Mac-style File Open / Save dialogues look like this:
Whereas CafeTran's File Open / Save dialogues look like this:
The differences are manifold:
- No Favorites group
- No ||| view
- No document Preview
- User cannot create new folders
etc.
The differences are caused by CafeTran using Java 6 on Macs. As soon as CafeTran supports Java 8 on a Mac, CafeTran will have real Mac-style File Open / Save dialogues.
Until then, you'll have to get used to a counter-intuitive combination of single-clicking, double-clicking and choosing.
Example
You want to navigate to the Translation projects folder inside your Documents folder:
As an example we use the Project Info dialogue box, but the problem also exists in other dialogues (Project Save as …, Resource information etc.)
First you single-click on the Project Location … button:
In this case you are on the Desktop.
- Click on the button labeled Desktop and navigate up to your ⌂ home folder.
- From there, navigate down to your Documents folder:
- Now be careful: you have to double-click the Documents folder to enter it. This is non-standard behaviour on a Mac.
WARNING: Do not use the Choose button here!
- Navigate to the Translation projects folder.
- You can use the Choose button now.
CafeTran will use the chosen folder:
PLEASE NOTE: CafeTran with Java 6 cannot use Default Folder X. It can, with Java 8.
