Shear Bolts (or snap-off bolts) are a special type of security machine screw or bolt which can be supplied with either a countersunk head or button head.

Wikipedia

Shear pin A shear pin is a mechanical detail designed to allow a specific outcome to occur once a predetermined force is applied. It can either function as a safeguard designed to break to protect other parts, or as a conditional operator that will not allow a mechanical device to operate until the correct force is applied.

Shear pins as safeguards In the role of a mechanical safeguard, a shear pin is a safety device designed to shear in the case of a mechanical overload, preventing other, more expensive parts from being damaged. As a mechanical sacrificial part, it is analogous to an electric fuse.

shear pin/rod: (1) pin connecting two parts and designed to act as load limiter by shearing at a pre-determined stress and allowing the parts to move independently) (2) overload protection device consisting of a steel pin, often of reduced diameter in the middle, which will break under a predetermined load

shear bolt: bolt whose head may intentionally be sheared off to make extraction difficult
