About me

Hi, I’m Michael Beijer. I’m a Dutch ⇆ English technical/patent translator and terminologist with almost 30 years of experience. I provide well-researched, fluent translations from Dutch into English and vice versa. I am fully bilingual, having grown up speaking both languages.

Although I’m comfortable translating a wide range of subjects – from user manuals and audit reports to marketing copy and financial documents – most of my work currently consists of patents and technical material.

If you’re looking for a translator with almost 30 years of experience, exceptional research skills and expertise in the field of cutting-edge translation and terminology technologies, you’ve come to the right place!

Beijerterm

Correct and consistent terminology is critical in technical translation. I therefore maintain an extensive database of specialist terminology in the form of glossaries, termbases, word lists, (scanned) paper dictionaries, websites and other resources. I keep track of this wealth of terminological data here on ‘Beijerterm’.

If you’re struggling with a pesky term, try using the search box above, or Proz.com’s so-called ‘ProZ.com term search’, where I am often among the top ‘KudoZ point leaders’ in my language pair.

Beijer.bot

I’m currently learning the AutoHotkey programming language by creating my own app called ‘Beijer.bot’.

It's a little dashboard menu of tools (see below) I use when translating, grouped into categories such as AI, Text actions, Bookmarks, Web searches, etc. Beijer.bot is designed to provide a centralised, visual place for me to access all my tools.

The various items can be accessed by (1) clicking on menu items, (2) keyboard shortcuts and (3) voice commands (powered by Talon Voice, a Dragon alternative).

CAT tools

I’m comfortable working with a wide range of translation and terminology software and am an expert at solving the complex file ‘prepping’ and conversion problems that often slow down a translation project. I’m also a highly proficient user of memoQ, Trados Studio, Wordfast, Déjà Vu X3, CafeTran and Phrase and can easily handle their various file formats / packages.
